When you are a content creator you always have to be online to build your brand but sometimes with all the negativity it’s hard and you don’t really want to be online because everyone is bringing you down. With coronavirus and now the protests there is so much hate online that nowadays I see very few people spreading positivity and far people spreading hate that it makes it very difficult for content creators to even want to continue making content. I am all for speaking your mind and talking about your opinion on certain issues but I am not okay when people have differences of opinions and attack you for it. Right now can be a really tough time for many content creators not only because it has been really hard to grow but also it doesn’t make you want to when you get on your social media every day and see nothing but pure hate. If you have been struggling to stay positive and get in the right mindset to create uplifting content for your readers here are some tips on how you can be positive in a negative world.
Be picky of who you follow- When you are a content creator there will also be that one person that follows you and expects a follow but so when you don’t they threaten to unfollow. Then there will be the people that follow you that don’t expect you to follow them back and followed because they truly enjoyed your content. I am not pressured by people that follow me and expect a follow back nor am I bothered by when people unfollow me after they realize I didn’t follow back because I know there will be others that aren’t following because of the numbers and I write for those people. You want to follow people that don’t just follow you to improve their follow count buy enjoys your content and expect nothing in return because those will be your most positive and dedicated followers. Be kind and picky about who you let into your community because if your not and let anyone in it could lead to having a list of followers who are jealous of you and want your success which can be mentally draining for anyone!
Ignore it– When someone is being hateful and bringing you down the last thing you want to do is entertain their negativity. If you ignore that person’s negativity it won’t be getting all the attention they thought it would be and for some people, it might be a wake-up call to stop! People that are negative want attention and when you don’t give them attention it almost seems pointless to even try. Unless someone took a blog post the wrong way and their feelings were hurt I don’t even entertain negative comments but ignore them because it’s physically draining to have to deal with that.
Be a positive role model- People need more positivity in their lives and I am not talking about blowing up someone’s newsfeed with inspirational quotes because even though you can post inspirational quotes it doesn’t qualify you as a positive person. Positivity starts with your mindset and how you talk about yourself during difficult situations because I know plenty of people who post inspirational quotes pretty consistently but I wouldn’t consider them positive people but that’s all they know how to do and never have they taken any of the advice they are supposedly giving to others. A good advocate isn’t someone who posts constant inspirational quotes but puts extra effort into making content that can help you and practices what they preach because how are you going to know if something is good advice if you have never tried it or wouldn’t consider it? Anyone can post an inspirational quote that has no meaning but if you want to make an impact you won’t do it by posting inspirational quotes because some people don’t respond well to them and only ignore it like they were never posted. Try to inspire someone by creating positive uplifting meaningful content because sometimes people are negative when they feel alone or have something going on in their life and if you make yourself available to chat or inspire them through your content it could help change someone’s life.
Create a comment policy- Sometimes as bloggers, the reason we feel bogged down or get depressed is that people are leaving negative comments on our blogs telling us how horrible they are or something else that is equally as horrible. Sometimes it can get kind of ridiculous so what I have done to decrease how many of these comments I get is in my privacy policy I also created a comment policy stating that you are more than welcomed to give me constructive criticism so I can make my blog better but you have to be nice about it and any comments that are not encouraging or uplifting will not be approved. That way there is no confusion as to what types of comments I will approve and what ones I won’t and when one isn’t approved it won’t be too hard to figure out why it wasn’t.
Delete negative people in your community- You don’t have any control over how others act but what you can control is who you allow in your community. I love to blog but I wouldn’t love it so much if my community wasn’t filled with positive people. If someone is constantly bringing down you have two choices talk to them about it because sometimes the reason someone is negative is that something is going on in their life making them feel negative and if that doesn’t work remove them for your community. We can do our best to spread positivity but we can’t make someone be positive and if someone has chosen not to be positive and you have done everything you can to try and change that person then there may be no other choice but to delete them. Sometimes you have to make hard decisions as a blogger but these choices are what will make you stronger and a better blogger!
Limit your time on social media– If you are a content creator your job is to be on social medial like all the time in order to grow your brand but it’s times like these that you don’t really want to be present on social media. As a content creator if you are trying to grow I wouldn’t advise you to completely shut off all social media because it can be great for growing your blog but I would say you can limit your use of certain platforms. For me, the social media platform that I see the most hate is Twitter and the only time I like to get on it is when I am promoting my blog and helping other but mostly I like to focus on Instagram and Facebook because people on there seem much happier. Many content creators can fully shut down social media because that is how we pay the bills but we can limit it and focus on growing platforms that aren’t filled with so much hate.
Remember it’s okay to disagree- Everyone has different opinions with the protests and what they think is necessary for beating coronavirus and sometimes we disagree on how we should handle certain situations and because of these differences it can make some people quite hostile. It is totally fine if your opinion is different from your friends but that is not the problem and it’s when people disagree or feel like they always need to have the last word and attack their friends for thinking differently. Your opinion can be completely different from your friends and it’s okay to verbalize your opinion on certain issues but don’t let those differences tear your relationships apart.. Your political differences should not take control or affect your relationships at all but so many people seem to forget that and need a reminder of what’s important! It’s so stupid to lose friends over politics and unfollow people because their opinion is different from yours because we are all entitled to our own opinion and whether you think that opinion is right or wrong it should never come between you and your best friend!
Take a break- The coronavirus has affected the mental health of many and some content creators are not in the right headspace to create quality content and that is okay you don’t have or shouldn’t feel like you do. If your mental health has been affected then take a break until your mental health improves might be beneficial for you because your blog will still be there when you return. I had a period of time when I thought about doing this and know many people who have stopped creating which is fine because it is always better to stop creating than to try and force content when you’re depressed. Your content won’t be as good because you won’t enjoy it as much and you won’t be helping yourself by forcing content but may in fact be hurting yourself. There is still a possibility that at some point I could take a break from blogging but for now, I am loving blogging and have gotten back in the right headspace to where it is enjoyable!
When your job is online and you have no choice but to be active on all the social media platforms to get a paycheck it can be difficult to stay positive when everyone is so negative and sometimes you just want to join the party and have a good old rant. You can’t control the actions of others but you can control your own and your not helping yourself by being negative because sometimes all it takes to inspire someone is your positivity. People often get frustrated with everything that is going on and I can totally get that so it can make some people very angry and become extremely negative. If you are a follower and contribute to the negativity nothing will ever change and before you know it every social media platform you get on will be filled with negativity and it will be depressing. Sometimes it can be hard to stay positive during difficult times but we need to do our best to have a positive mindset and bring people up now more than ever. Don’t be that person who makes a hateful status or send hateful emails just cause you can but be the shining light because people need that during times of struggle. How do you stay positive online?
