We all have those days when all we want to do is sit and watch Netflix! There is nothing wrong with binging Netflix every once in a while but as soon as you are missing deadlines because of it that is when it becomes a problem. In the last couple of months, I have found it very difficult to get motivated to do important tasks and that raised my stress levels because I was not getting stuff done. Here are some tips on how you can get motivated when all you want to do is watch Netflix!
Recognize you have a problem- The first step to getting back on track is to recognize you have a problem. If you are missing deadlines because you are to preoccupied with your favorite Netflix shows that is usually a sign you have a problem. If you are in denial nothing will ever change so if you want to create, change you have to accept that you have a problem.
Come up with an action plan- After you have recognized you have a problem then you need to come up with an action plan! How do you resolve your problem? Writing down all the steps that it will take to resolve your problem will help you visualize your goals! Be specific when writing down your goals and what it will take to achieve them. For example, saying I want to start exercising is not a very specific goal! What are you going to do to make that happen? If you don’t write them down, they are not as much of a priority and it makes it difficult for things to change!
Change up your routine– If you are doing the same thing every day you may become bored and lose motivation to do certain tasks. You may not be able to pick and choose what chores you do daily, but you can decide what order you do them in. Changing the order in which you do things makes it a little more interesting!
Me time- Sometimes we may have a tendency to do more for other people than we do for ourselves. Doing stuff for others is great but you also what to do something for yourself every once in a while!
Stop making excuses- How often have you told yourself that you were going to do something tomorrow but when tomorrow comes it still never gets done. I know I am guilty of it and the only solution to this problem is to just do it! Your to-do list will get overwhelming if you are always putting things off to the last minute!
Music– Listening to my favorite bands puts me in a better mood so it is easier to complete those tedious tasks!
Call your BFF- I don’t get to see my friends that often and sometimes that causes me to get depressed. Whenever I am feeling depressed I don’t really want to do anything! I am able to solve this problem by simply calling or texting one of my friends!
Sometimes we may have days when we don’t really want to do anything and that is okay but just don’t make a habit of it! Figuring out what is causing you to feel that way will help you come up with an action plan!
