Good And Bad Gift Ideas For Migraineurs

My Rockin Disabled Life

Hi friends, my name is Sarah and I live with a disability called Spina Bifida and have more physical challenges than most people. The media has wrongly portrayed the disabled community for as long as I can remember and makes us all seem inspirational or depressed. I am on a mission to break all the stigma surrounding disability to help you learn the truth.

These are good suggestions! My aunt suffers from migraines that cancel her plans and leave her in pain.

I got very confused at first when you said “noisemakers.” I thought you were talking about those things that make loud noises, and I thought that couldn’t be right! We had some of them in a gift my mom bought and they were so loud that I hid in my room until it was over. Those seem like they would be terrible for someone who gets migraines.

Eventually, I pieced together that the thing you’re describing is what I call a “white noise machine.” I have an MP3 file to play that for when my ears get overwhelmed. It’s nice to drown out the loud noises and take a break.

Yes that’s exactly what I meant so thank you for pointing that out so I can go back and clarify. Anything that is super noisy would be horrible for migraines so I would never recommend that!

Yes, I don’t fully understand migraines since I’m lucky enough not to have them, but I imagine that loud noisemakers would be terrible!

You say you don’t like white noise. Just in case it’s useful, there are different pitches of white noise that might work better for you. You can try it out here and see if you like anything: https://mynoise.net/NoiseMachines/whiteNoiseGenerator.php

Yes, noisemakers would be horrible for migraineurs! Sleeping with migraines can be difficult because not everything will work the same for everyone but for me personally, I have tried different pitches of white noises and none of them have worked well but thanks for the resource! I will check them out to see if any of them work better than what I have tried in this past.

Well, everyone’s different! I hope you find resources, white noise or otherwise, that make it easier for you.

Do you have any ideas for good types of pillows. I’m in the market😊

I don’t use any particular brand and I just look for super fluffy pillows because that is how I like to sleep. Everyone is different and it really depends on how firm you want it. I believe there are some places that let you try them out so maybe you could look into something like that. I wish I could be of more help!
