People often think that creators have the best job on the planet because we can be our own boss and post whatever we want while getting paid to do it. I am not going to argue that content creation is a rewarding job because you can educate hundreds of thousands of people from countries you have never even heard of but like any job it can be challenging at time. Bloggers are all too familar with writers’ bloock and what takes you a few minutes to read takes us all day to create if not longer. Sometimes you will get in the zone and be so focused with creating that your health gets put on the back burner. Skipping a few meals or not drinking enough water for a few days won’t kill you but do that long enough and it could cause some long-term health problems that were totally avoidable. You can help a lot of people through blogging but if you are not taking care of yourself you won’t be helping anyone but yourself! How can writing for long periods of time affect your health in a negative way? In this post, I talk about a few things that bloggers’ neglect about their health that you should stop right now to avoid any major health concern later down the road!
It’s mentally exhausting- Blogging does get easier the more you do it but what people don’t see is how mentally exhausting it is to write posts. I love to write blog posts but like many jobs such as computer programming, it requires you to sit and stare at a computer screen for hours at a time with minimal rest. I am not comparing blogging to computer programming by any means because obviously programming is much harder and uses more brainpower than blogging ever will but you still have to stare at a computer screen for long periods of time and write something people would be interested in. After I publish a blog post I am so tired that I don’t want to go anywhere or anything expect take a nap and watch my favorite Netflix. show. Writing blog posts is even harder for me because I have chronic pain and don’t have as much energy as most people so it takes all the energy I have to write even a short post. Not everyone will have the same experience and some people can knock out three blog posts by lunch time but I am not that lucky and it takes me all day to write one!
Fitness is neglected- Some people are not able to work out because they have a disability that makes it impossible so this is not for those people but some people can and choose not when it’s hard . Spending hours creating content is mentally exhausting and going to the gym is literally the last thing you would want to do after working for eight hours. Many creators neglect their physical health because they are just too tired after working all day and you need Netfix more than you need to put yourself through physical pain. I urge you not to neglect your physical health because as much as we may hate it, you need it to stay healthy and fit for years to come. I always struggle with motivating myself to workout after I published a post because I am too tired so try to wake up early and do it beforehand so I don’t make excuses later in the day. If I tell myself that I will do it afterwards nine times out of ten it will never happen unless I am weirdly motivated which is rare! You don’t have to drive to a gym if your too tired because there are so many quick at home option you can try. Exercise can improve your energy but is the last thing you want to do after a long work day so my rule of thumb is to commit to five minutes. If I am still tired I stop but usually I don’t and make it alll the way through because the hardest part is getting starting.
Skipping meals- I cannot skip meals because my bowel problems make it so I am more negatively impacted so if I were to do that I would get constipated to the point I couldn’t go to the bathroom. If you knew how horrible that felt you would also try and avoidable at all costs! In a way, I consider that a blessing because it motivates me to eat regularly and I don’t know if I would if I didn’t have this problem! I eat three meals a day like everyone should but on days I blog I don’t eat extra snacks like I normally would because there isn’t time for that and the only reason I am stopping is if I have to pee. I could forget something important that I wanted to include in a blog post if I stop in the middle or working even if it’s only for a short time. If you are always tight for time on the day you create and don’t have a lot of extra time to make food, meal prepping the day before might help save some time. Another thing I like to do is I create a schedule where I eat around the same time every day so I actually get hungry and don’t forget. Nutrition is important because you can’t function and your absolute and create great content if your not giving your body fuel!
Holding in your pee-I don’t hold in my pee when I am writing because I know that I am more prone to UTI”s because of my medical condition and there is nothing I want that badly enough that I would be willing to cause a medical issue for it. When I am writing I do struggle with drinking enough water and it doesn’t matter if I have water bottle literally sitting right next to me I don’t usually touch it because I am preoccupied with my work and not paying attention to much of anything else. My water consumption is not great on writing days so what I find myself doing is usually chugging a bunch of water after I am done to prevent bladder infections and migraine attacks if I hadn’t already triggered one. If you also struggle with drinking enough water because you are preoccupied like I do, setting a timer might help to remind you and keep track. Sometimes when I am busy I set a timer every couple of hours because I can’t rely on myself to actually remember to drink more water.
Creating content can be a rewarding job because you can help hundreds of thousands of people from the comfort of your own home by just typing on a keyboard. It also be challeging because it can be hard on your bodies mentally and physically since we are spending more hours on the computer than the average person would even think about. I urge you to prioritize your health because you can’t show up for your readers if your sick in the hospital from an illness that caused. Creating quality content is important but it should never be priortized over your health because eventually it will all catch up to you. It’s hard to stop and take breaks when you are in the zone but sometimes it is the best for you. It’s not good to always have all work and no play because your blog will always be there but without your health you have nothing! I dont’ write everyday not because I think I couldnt but without a break from blogging I would go completely crazy or become extremely obsessive! Do you neglect your health as a blogger?
