It takes a lot of time and effort to build a blog and serious blogger have to spend several hours a day promoting their content and building their brand. As a disabled blogger I spend a majority of my week creating content for blog and social media and with amount of content I put out sometimes it may appear that all I do is blog but believe it or not I have a life outside of blog and there are some things about my life I do not share. I blog a lot because the more content you create the more opportunity there is for growth, but I do have down-time when I am not blogging because it’s all the time, when I am not working that I feel the most inspired. Every blogger is different, and we are not all going to enjoy the same types of activities, but everyone should have things they do outside of work because when you work too much it leads to burnout. I enjoy creating blog posts and reading comments from readers because if I hated it, I would find a different outlet but if all I did was write blog posts it would drive me crazy because I never would be having fun outside of blog? What things do I enjoy outside of blogging? In this post, I am going to talk about some things I enjoy doing outside of writing blog posts.
I do a workout- Physical health is important for our overall well-being and although I don’t enjoy every part of my exercise routine and am very limited, I am blessed that my disability does not completely limit it. Exercise is privilege because not all disabled people are able to exercise and would love to do just five minutes of the exercise routine you are always complaining about. Most people do not enjoy exercise, and only do it because it benefits your health, but I actually enjoy it because I view it as something I get to do not something I have to and don’t do exercises I hate. When you have to spend so much time creating content sometimes it can be difficult to find the time to exercise but I always try to find the time to squeeze it in which is usually toward the end of day when all my blog work is done. Exercise for me is cheaper therapy and a mini escape from disability and it’s an important part of my self-care routine because if I don’t take care of myself but tell other people that they should take care of themselves it says a lot about me.
I sometimes play video games- I have a Playstation4 that I do not play nearly as much as did before I had chronic migraine, but I still occasionally will play it when I am feeling well. Since living with chronic migraine, I prefer to play video games alone because my processing has been a little bit slower since living with chronic migraine and sometimes, and it can be hard to keep up when I am playing with other but occasionally, I will play with my sisters when they come over. My favorite types of video games are car racing games and if you ever see me playing a game you best believe it’s Need For Speed most of the time because it makes me feel like I am a great driver even though it real life I can’t drive!
I hang out with my sisters- For those of you who know me you know that I have four sister which I don’t talk about often because I respect the privacy of family members and the only thing, I may mention is that I have them, but I’ll never give specific name of family members. My sisters live in the same area as I do because we all have different lives and do not live together and usually only have quality time around birthdays and holidays but sometimes will hang out by the pool in the summer or go to the movies. My sisters only understand my disability to a certain extent, but I am blessed that I have good relationship with my siblings. Last year, one of my sisters took me to Animal Kingdom for my thirtieth birthday and although I wish I had more movement when I went it was still fun. I do not have a lot of friends and the friends I do have I have not seen in years, but I have enough sisters to make up for all the friends I don’t have.
I read blog posts from others- As a blogger it’s important that you not only read your own posts, but also posts from others and technically you could argue that reading other people’s posts are part of blogging because you do have to get other perspectives to stay current with all the information in your niche. If you are reading a blog post to get new followers, I wouldn’t consider that as an activity outside of blogging but when I read a blog post that is not my own, I am not doing it because I have interest in what that creator is writing about and don’t care if you check out my blog or not. Reading other posts can expose you to different styles and make you a better blogger and is something I really enjoy about blogging! It is easy to find new blogs on WordPress because there are millions of blogs and new ones are created daily so you could read all day long and still not even come close to reading every single post on WordPress.
Sometimes I will color- If you ever see me sitting on my phone and doing what looks like playing games I am probably just coloring because it’s my secret addiction. I am huge perfectionist and don’t generally enjoy using color books because I make too many mistakes that I have a hard time letting go of and find more joy in color apps that I can use from an iPad or cellphone. My coloring addiction can sometimes be very problematic because sometimes I will be coloring for hours and forget that I should have gotten some work done. I mostly color in the morning before I start working or in the evening after I am done but I don’t plan on giving it up anytime soon because it’s a distraction for pain and can make my bowel regimen that takes an hour or more not as horrible.
I watch tv sometimes– When I was recovering from surgery, I watched tv from the time I woke up to the time I went to bed because I was in too much pain, and it was one of the very few activities I could do without violating hip precautions. I watch tv a lot less now because if I watch tv as much as I did when I was recovering from surgery nothing would ever get done but usually will watch a couple of episodes of Seinfeld at night which is my new favorite comedy. TV marathons can sometimes be distraction for some bloggers but for me it’s not because I watch tv at times I wasn’t planning on blogging anyway so I don’t end up procrastinating and creating less content than I would have.
As a blogger I do spend a significant amount of time creating content for my blog and social media because you have to, but I do have a life outside of my blog and sometimes do other activities that have nothing do to with blogging. I love to blog but when you are feeling stuck sometimes you need a break from it to get inspired because sometimes you get writer’s block from working too much. If I am not disturbed, I can write a blog post in a matter of hours but even the most experienced bloggers have moments where we can’t come up with the right words to say and have to walk away from our blogs. If you are a blogger, and love what you do sometimes it can be hard to walk away from your blog, but I want to remind that it’s not healthy for anyone to work constantly without ever allowing themselves any downtime. If you feel stuck it’s okay to take a few hours away from your blog and something not related to blogging because sometimes breaks is all it takes to get inspired. What activities do you enjoy outside of creating content for your blog?

Great blog, Sarah. It seems like you have worked hard at staying active both physically mentally, and socially …a good reminder for all of us. Thank you!
