Blogging can be very rewarding because it opens up opportunities that you would not have had without your blog and allows you to connect and share your knowledge with people all over the world. People sometimes want to start a blog but never do because they aren’t the strongest writers and think that they don’t know how to write a blog post. I strongly believe that most people are very much capable of writing a blog post because you don’t have to have a college degree to thrive at blogging, nor do you have to be the best writer on the Internet. Writing a blog post takes a lot of time, and I think that sometimes people overcomplicate the blogging process and try and create the perfect post which takes the fun out of blogging and often leads to bloggers’ burnout. Blogging can be as simple as you want it to be, and you don’t have to be super tech-savvy to blog, and most bloggers aren’t. How do you write a blog post that people will want to read? In this post, I am going to share how I write a blog post that gets views.
Show a little personality– The biggest mistake I see new bloggers make is that they try a little too hard to create the perfect blog post and write all their posts like it’s a college essay. Grammar is important for blogs because if people can’t understand the point you are trying to make, they will get bored and stop reading. Perfect grammar is not a requirement for blogs because if it were, I couldn’t blog, and it is okay if you break a few grammar rules to show a little personality, and as a matter of fact, it’s encouraged. Blogs thrive on personality, and bloggers who appear to be more personable and relatable get more views than blogs that are trying a little too hard to have perfect grammar and are a little uptight. Loosen up and show your true self because you don’t have to pretend that you have it all together. You need to be able to connect with your readers through your blog because it’s not a college essay and should not be written in that way. Every blogger has different writing styles, and there is no specific way you have to write a blog post, but if you are struggling to get views, it might be because you are trying to be too formal and boring people to tears. My writing may not always be grammatically correct, but that is okay because I would rather ignore a grammar rule and show people my personality, so people know the person they are following.
Write in a way a child can understand– When you are a health blogger and blog about your disability it is so important that you write all your blog posts in a way that a child can understand. People don’t want to have to Google the medical terms that you talked about in your blog because you didn’t do your research and explain what these terms mean. You should always assume that most people reading your blog are not going to have your disability and will not be familiar with a lot of medical terms and if you don’t explain what these things mean, people will get bored. I don’t know about you, but I get bored with reading things I don’t understand. When you blog about your disability, sometimes it can be difficult to get everyone to understand your point of view because not everyone will be disabled, but I do try and simplify my blog posts as much as possible and hope that no one walks away from my blog confused. It sometimes takes more time and research to simplify your blog post, but it is necessary because people don’t read blogs they can’t understand.
Be authentic- When it comes to social media, you never know who is honestly representing themselves and who lying to you to get views. People sometimes get desperate when stats are low and will do whatever it takes to get views even if that means being a little dishonest. It is easy to lie in a blog post, and you are never going to truly know if someone is making up a story unless you happened to be there, but even though you can lie easily, that doesn’t mean you should. You don’t have to lie to get views because people love creators who are authentic and keep it real. . When I blog about my pain sometimes, I will downplay it because if I was too honest, people would think I am negative and I would attract the wrong audience, but never have I completely lied about a pain I do not have. Be honest and don’t lie because people are more likely to follow creators they think are trustworthy. If you are struggling to get views, it doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t exaggerate your story enough, and sometimes it’s the way you wrote the post, or you’re a new blogger and not a lot of people have found your blog yet. Experiment with different writing styles to keep your readers hooked, because if you have to lie about it, you shouldn’t be writing about it! Be real because people love to support creators who are passionate about what they do.
Break it up- When you write a blog post with long paragraphs, it can be overwhelming for readers because there is too much information all at once. Break up your post into smaller paragraphs because when your blog post is broken up, it’s easier for people to understand, and they are more likely to continue reading. I break up all my posts into different bullet points that way it’s easily digestible for readers.
When I started my blog, I was not a strong writer and I overcomplicated the blogging process because I thought successful blogs were made by being professional and having perfect grammar. Blogging takes a lot of time, but you don’t need to have the perfect blog because people love to hear about your failures and what you learned from them. Successful blogging does not have to be hard and is as easy as you want to make it because the most important thing isn’t that you put your commas in the right place, but it’s that you are able to connect with your audience. Blogging is all about building connections, and people follow you because they like your writing style, so don’t forget to show some personality. Don’t worry too much about what other people are doing because even though writing a certain way works for one blogger, that doesn’t mean that if you were to write a post in the exact same way, you will get the same results.
