When it comes to health, a lot of people prioritize their mental and physical health but when it comes to skincare, sometimes it’s not as much of a priority because people often think skincare is all about looking young and not everyone cares about that. It is just as important to have a good skincare routine because your skin is the largest organ in your body and helps protect your organs while also regulating your body temperature. Some people spend a lot of money on skincare because they want to look twenty for as long as possible, but that is a luxury, and it is possible to have good skin health without paying hundreds of dollars. There are a lot of benefits to taking care of your skin, but it’s not all about beauty, and a good skincare routine can help lower your risk for skin cancer. As I have gotten older, I have made skincare more of a priority, but because I live on a limited income, I am not able to buy the most expensive products on the market. How do you take care of your skin without breaking the bank? In this post, I am going to talk about a few things you can do to improve your skin that won’t cost you an arm and a leg.

Wear sunscreen– If you are only going to be outside for five minutes, you probably don’t need to lather up on sunscreen because that is not enough time to get a sunburn, but if you want to sit outside and tan for long periods of time, you might want to consider some kind of protection. The sun can give you a good dose of vitamin D, and there are benefits to sitting outside, but if you are using the sun to increase your vitamin D intake, you only have to sit outside for about twenty minutes. If you are going to be outside for hours, it is so important that you wear sunscreen because the sun ages you, and the more you burn, the more you increase your risk of skin cancer. If you occasionally get a minor sunburn, I wouldn’t overly worry about getting skin cancer because burns happen to all of us, but you don’t want getting sunburns to be a regular occurrence. Sunscreen helps protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays and lowers your risk for skin cancer, so don’t forget your sunscreen! There are a lot of different brands of sunscreens, and some are better for you than others, so find something that suits your needs.

Seek the advice of a dermatologist- If you have been trying to improve your skin and have tried every over-the-counter remedy you can think of but have not been seeing any progress, it might be a good idea to seek the advice of a professional if you can afford it. A dermatologist is a skin expert and can give you recommendations for the types of skincare products they think you should use and can prescribe medications that will help you start seeing progress in the appearance of your skin. A dermatologist can teach you a lot about your specific skin type, but they don’t only help people have younger-looking skin for longer and they can also check all your moles to make sure they’re not cancerous. Everyone can benefit from a yearly dermatologist appointment because they can diagnose skin cancer before it becomes untreatable and are able to tell you what products are causing you to break out so you can avoid them!

Drink enough water– Water has a lot of health benefits and it’s not just for preventing constipation, migraine attacks, and UTI infections, but it also plays a major role in your skin health because dehydrated skin causes it to lose elasticity, so it becomes dry and itchy. Drinking enough water is one of the easiest and most overlooked ways to improve your skin health. If you want to have youthful-looking skin as long as possible, your skin needs to be hydrated because dehydrated skin often causes wrinkles and can make you look old. Water is so important for your health in general because our organs cannot function at their best without proper hydration, and people who drink more water often have better-looking skin.

Try a collagen supplement– Collagen is a protein that your body makes naturally that provides structure, strength, and support to both your joints and skin but as we age, we start to lose collagen. You start to lose collagen as early as your mid to late twenties and it drastically starts to drop by forty, which is why collagen supplements are so important for maintaining our skin’s elasticity. I think everyone should start taking collagen supplements in their twenties for better skin health and joint health because we put a lot of wear and tear on our bodies and need collagen for strong bones. Collagen supplements are very inexpensive, worthwhile investment, and you don’t want to wait until you have pain before you start taking collagen because at that point it’s too late.

Take a look at your diet- Diet plays a major role in skin health and you can improve the appearance of your skin by simply making healthy choices. A high sugar diet causes inflammation which can sometimes cause you to have more acne and skin issues. Figure out what types of food cause you to have more skin issues and avoid them as much as possible.

Skincare doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive, and you can improve your skin health by simply drinking enough water and wearing sunscreen. You shouldn’t wait until you are older to start taking care of your skin because if you want youthful-looking skin as long as possible, you have to start developing healthy habits when you are young, and if you wait until you are sixty often it’s too late. Older people who have great-looking skin and look ten years younger than they actually are often start taking care of their skin when they are young because everything you do in your twenties and thirties affects you when you are older. There are so many ways you can improve your skin health, and it starts with finding a good face wash and moisturizer. Start taking care of yourself now because it’s never too late to start developing healthy habits. How do you take care of your skin health?
