How To Get Over The Fear Of Starting A Blog

When you start a blog and really start to grow your following, you will start to get opportunities that you would not have had without your blog. There are many benefits to blogging because it can make you money and allow you to connect with other people who understand what you are going through. I always encourage people who want to start blogging to go for it, but sometimes people are hesitant and never start one because they are waiting for the perfect time. It is hard to put your life online because sometimes you have to write about things that make you a little uncomfortable, and there is always the fear that someone is judging you. I was a nervous wreck when I started my blog because I was not a strong writer and was not sure how people were going to react to it. I almost quit because I had a bunch of fears in my head about blogging that never happened which luckily I have overcome. How do you overcome the fear of starting a blog? In this post, I am going to talk about what I did to overcome my fear of starting a blog.

Just do it- Many people want to start a blog but never do because they are waiting for the perfect time to start a blog. There is no perfect time to start a blog, and if you are waiting for that perfect sign, you’ll be waiting forever because it doesn’t exist. Before I started my blog, I was a little hesitant about blogging and for a good year, I put it off because I was waiting for the perfect time, and it wasn’t until I just did that my blog was formed. You can’t think about it too much, and sometimes, you just have to do it because the hardest part of blogging is getting over the fear of starting. Start with one post because the first post is always the hardest but it does get easier with more experience. You will never start a blog by making excuses, so just do it!

Talk with other creators- When I was thinking about starting a blog, I was hesitant because I thought I would get a lot of trolls blogging about my disability. As a disabled creator, I have gotten some trolls, like most people who put their life online have, but I have not gotten nearly as many trolls as I envisioned I would. My fear of trolls was a silly fear because although some people don’t like my content, most people do, and I have gotten a lot of positive feedback. Starting a blog can be scary, and sometimes we have all of these fears in our heads that hold us back that never actually happen, which is why it can be very helpful to talk to experienced bloggers. Talk to other creators about their experience with blogging because you may learn that the fears you have don’t happen very often. It can be very encouraging to talk to other creators because the more knowledge the less scary it is. Sometimes, people are fearful of starting a blog because they don’t know what they doing and need advice from experienced people.

Try not to think about the opinions of others- Sometimes, people are hesitant to start a blog because they are afraid of what their friends are going to think of it. I love my family, and they are supportive of my blog, but when your family reads your blog, it does create a little more anxiety because you care more about what your family thinks than total strangers. Some people in my family have told me they like my blog, but not everyone has, and there are some people in my family that I have no idea what they think of it because they have never told me. I do my absolute best to create content that won’t upset my family, but I try not to think about what others think of it because it can’t be that bad if no one is complaining about it. I don’t know which family members read my blog and which ones don’t, but I do know that I will have more anxiety if I think about the opinions of others. Some people are not going to resonate with your blog, and that is okay because you don’t have to please everyone. Do your best to work, but try to think about the opinions of others because it will create more fear. People are entitled to their own opinions, and you don’t need to waste time stressing about the idea that someone didn’t like your post because there will be a lot of people who do.

Ease it into it– . Blogging publicly can sometimes be scary because you aren’t in control of what people comment and sometimes get rude comments that someone with a private my blog wouldn’t. My blog has always been public because I have always wanted to reach as many people as possible, but in the beginning, I only told a small percentage of people because I was not ready for the whole world to read my posts. Public blogs reach more people, but if you aren’t confident in your writing, it is okay to make it private and only available to close friends and family. Friends and family usually are supportive of your blog and won’t leave unkind comments, and sometimes that is what you need at first. Ease into it because you don’t have to tell everyone you know about your blog the day you launch it, and I blogged secretly for several months before I told my family.

Let go of perfectionism- People are sometimes hesitant to publish their first post because they fear that it’s not perfect and not good enough. There is no such thing as a perfect blog post because you can always improve your writing. It is so important to let go of perfectionism because no one has it all figured out and even the pro’s are always learning new things.

Starting a blog opens opportunities that you would not have had without your blog but sometimes people say they are going to start one but never do because of the fears they have. Bad things can happen to bloggers and sometimes you experience a lot of trolls or your content is plagiarized, but in my experience, most things are positive, and the things we think are going to happen never do. Getting over the fear of starting a blog is the first step because you will never know what doors it will open if you always have excuses for not starting. Tears were shed when I wrote my first post because I didn’t think it was good enough but as time went on and I became more confident it got easier. Don’t let the fear of blogging prevent you from starting one because a lot of the fears we have never come true. How do you get over your fear of starting a blog?
