Christmas is almost here! I love celebrating the holidays because you get to spend more time with your life, and it’s a great opportunity to slow down, but if you are trying to grow your blog, it can be more difficult because people are out shopping and not reading blog posts. Blogs go through seasons where we get more or less traffic to our blogs, and it depends on the time of year. If you are trying to grow your blog, the month of December can be very frustrating because people are not reading as many blog posts and are out shopping, and views are down. My blog has lighter traffic during the month of December, but I am not bothered by it too much and use that as an opportunity to truly enjoy the holiday season before it’s over. There are a lot of ways bloggers can get through the slow season as a blogger, and you don’t have to give up on blogging. How do you get through the slow season? In this post, I am going to share a few ways you can get through the slow season and continue to get growth to your blog.
Take a break- December can be a very slow month for bloggers, and it is not uncommon for bloggers to take a break and not blog during the month of December because sometimes your views are so low that it doesn’t seem worth it. If you are trying to get growth to your blog, I would not suggest taking a break all month long because your blog is most definitely not going to get more views if you stop creating new content. I love to blog and have never taken an entire month off unless I am recovering from a major surgery because it’s harder for me to give up what I love than to blog with slightly lower stats. Take a break from blogging if your stats are stressing you out, because your blog will still be there when you are ready to return. Many bloggers do not blog do the month of December, and that is okay because we all deserve a little time off to recharge.
Write more often- If you are you are serious about growing your blog, I would not suggest taking a break because you will not continue to grow if you stop blogging. If you have noticed a significant drop in your stats, blogging more often can help you get more views because more content brings more traffic to your blog. I have never taken a long blogging break that has been longer than a few weeks, but during the summer and holidays, when stats are down sometimes, I will blog more often because sometimes that is what you have to do to get the same amount of views. Stats may still be lower than they normally would be because you can’t make people read your blog, but you can get slightly higher stats by blogging more often. You shouldn’t stop posting during the slow season and you need to do it more because there are certain times of the year when you have to work harder to get the same amount of views.
Promote your blog more often– People often think that you have to always have a new post to continue to grow your blog. It is important to regularly create new content, but you don’t always need a new post to get growth because promoting what you already have is equally important. One of the biggest mistakes I see new creators make is that they only promote posts that were recently written, but don’t promote posts that were written a few months ago. Blogs thrive on content, and updating your blog with new posts is important, but eighty percent of blog growth comes down to how often you promote it. You should be promoting new and old blog posts regularly because not everyone will have read every single post on your blog, and you don’t know who will come across an old post and click on it. Blogs need to be promoted often because most people will find your blog through something they saw on social media. Many bloggers are very good at writing new posts but are awful at promoting what they already have. Don’t neglect promotion because it is possibly even more important than new content.
Update old posts- When I started blogging, I was still figuring things out and my writing compared to what it is now was not the greatest because I didn’t have the experience but as I created more and more content I have improved. Some of my older content I wrote in my first year of blogging I thought was good at the time but now I think it’s awful and cringe when I read older posts. I started over with my blog to make my older posts better because I wanted to improve all my older posts and the best way to do that was to start over. Updating older posts is a great way to get more views to your blog because the better your writing is the more likely people will be to read it. If you are going to update an old post, make sure that you add new information because adding a period is not updating and don’t forget to promote it.
Write holiday-themed posts- During the holiday season, I try to write a lot of holiday-themed posts because those types of topics tend to get more views during this time of year. I would not recommend every post be holiday-themed because these types of posts usually only have interest for a short period of time, but if you do a couple of gift guides, it can help get your blog more traffic.
Schedule posts if you are going to be away– During the holiday season it can get hectic because you are running around trying to prepare for the holidays. It can be difficult to be consistent with blogging when you have Christmas shopping to do and holiday parties to attend, and you may not have as much time to create content. I am a huge advocate for writing a couple of posts ahead of time and scheduling them because life gets in the way and sometimes we don’t have time to write new posts. Schedule posts ahead of time because that way you will still be able to get a new post out when you are busy and get growth to your blog.
When views are down it is frustrating for bloggers because you spend so much time creating new content only to have no one read it. If are serious about growing your blog, I would not recommend taking long blogging breaks because your blog is not going to get any views if you stop creating but I would prioritize writing more and promoting. You cannot control slow season, but it is possible to get growth to your blog when views are down as long as you don’t give up. My blog does not get as many views during the holidays, and I usually will not write about super important topics that I want a lot of people to read but I don’t stop blogging. Enjoy the holidays and try not to get overly worried with low stats because it’s normal for stats to fluctuate on a daily basis. Low stats do not mean your blog is bad and sometimes it means you are new and not popular enough. How do you get views to your blog during the month of December?
