What To Get A Migraineur For Christmas

Migraine can be a very difficult disease to manage and depending on the frequency of your attacks, sometimes you can spend quite a bit of time managing pain because medication can only do so much. Christmas is next week, which means a lot of people are getting their last minute shopping done if you aren’t finished already. Some of the best gifts you can give someone who lives with migraine or any kind of chronic pain is something that help get relief from pain. If you currently don’t live with migraine, sometimes it can be difficult to know what kind of things can help because not everyone will get relief from the same types of remedies. There are a lot of different ways to manage migraine pain and not everyone will get relief with the same types of products because there is no one-size-fits-all for pain, and you have to experiment with what works for you. What can you get a migraineur for Christmas that they will love and use? In this post, I am going to give you a few gift ideas for the migraineur in your life.

Eye mask- Light can be very painful during and before a migraine attack and it is estimated that about eighty to ninety percent of people have light sensitivity. When I have a migraine attack, sitting in a dark room helps alleviate my pain, but it can be difficult to sit in a dark room if my migraine were to strike in the middle of the afternoon because migraine is very rarely convenient. I would prefer to sit in a dark room for every migraine attack, but that is not always easy because sometimes you get a migraine in the middle of the afternoon when it’s still light outside. Eye masks are a great stocking stuffer to get a migraineur for Christmas because it allows you to be able to sit in darkness if you were to get a migraine on a bright sunny day. I have several eye masks and am not in need of any more, but you can never have too much.

Wine wand- Some migraineurs are not able to drink because alcohol is a common migraine trigger, but a wine wand can make it possible for some people to drink a glass of wine without pain. A wine wand is a filter that you can put in a glass of wine that will remove sulfites and histamines from the wine that typically trigger a migraine. Wine wands do not work for everyone, and some people still need to avoid alcohol, but it’s a great gift idea for a fellow migraineur because some people may be able to have a drink with this product. You still have to practice moderation when using this product because it doesn’t remove the alcohol, but it can give some people the ability to have an occasional martini.

Ginger or peppermint tea– Head pain is a common symptom of migraine but despite what people believe it does not end with head pain and some people also struggle with nausea. Medication can help give some people relief from nausea and allow you to eat something on bad days, but it doesn’t always work. Ginger and peppermint tea are great stocking stuffers for migraineurs because studies have shown that these remedies are very effective in relieving nausea. Get your fellow migraineur some ginger or peppermint tea because it is not going to be hard on your body like some medications are and won’t cause any nasty side effects.

Headache hat– Medication can help some people get relief from pain but it is not a cure and you can still get a migraine while taking medication. I love my headache hat and think that all migraineurs need at least one in their pain toolbox for those days when you get a migraine but aren’t due to take medication. What is a headache hat? It is a hat you keep in the freezer and wear when you have a migraine that can provide relief with medication. I have several headache hats and have gotten relief from them without needing to take any medication. Medication can help prevent migraine attacks, but it does not completely prevent attacks, and you can still get migraine attacks while taking medication. Headache hats are a great drug-free way to get relief, and a lot of the time, the coolness of the hat lowers your pain levels, and you don’t end up having to take medication.

Sunglasses– Lights can be painful when you have a migraine, but you can’t always stop what you are doing to rest because life doesn’t stop every time you have a migraine. Every migraineur needs multiple pairs of sunglasses for those times we are at work with a migraine and can’t go home. Sunglasses can be very inexpensive and help people who are experiencing migraine pain to dim some light and prevent it from getting worse. You can get expensive migraine glasses, but in my experience, regular sunglasses work just fine.

Activities that don’t require the Internet- When you have a migraine, you can watch TV while wearing sunglasses but not everyone wants to because sometimes you get faster relief by doing activities that don’t require you to look at a screen. Coloring books are any kind of craft that doesn’t require Internet use are great things to get a migraineur for Christmas. I don’t use coloring books often, but I do have some on hand for when there is a hurricane, and I have no power or am in pain and can’t look at a computer screen. Activities that allow you to unplug are great ideas to get a migraineur for Christmas because sometimes looking at a screen is too painful.

A big water bottle- When you live with pain, it is so important that you drink enough because dehydration can cause more pain. People sometimes think that if you live with pain, you will never forget to drink water, but you can still forget, even if you know dehydration causes pain. A water bottle is a great idea for migraineurs because it can help remind you to drink more water. Water bottles with encouraging messages can also be super helpful for people who hate water and need some motivation.

Migraine and headache disorders are frustrating because medication does not work for everyone and not all doctors are familiar with treating migraine and headache disorders. Medication can help prevent some migraine attacks, but it doesn’t completely eliminate pain, and you can’t solely rely on your medication to prevent attacks. There are so many things you can do to prevent a migraine and lifestyle changes play a major role in your pain levels. Gifts that can help someone have less pain are always much appreciated because not everyone is able to get everything, they could possibly need to improve pain levels. You can get a migraineur something that has nothing to do with pain management, but it is always appreciated when we get things to help manage our pain. These are a few gift ideas that you can get a migraineur for Christmas, but they are not necessarily things I need, and most of them I currently own and don’t need more.
