How To Motivate Yourself To Blog When You Would Rather Do Anything Else

Consistency is so important for bloggers because the more you create the faster you will be able to grow your brand but sometimes it can be hard to motivate yourself because you are tired and would rather do anything but blogging. As a disabled blogger, I love what I do and look forward to creating content for my readers but some days I struggle to motivate myself because you can love your job and not want to do it all the time. There is nothing wrong with taking an occasional day off if you are truly struggling with writer’s block and can’t come up with anything but if you want to grow your brand it’s important that you don’t make a habit of not blogging. I love to blog but there are some days I know I should blog because I haven’t done it in a while but really don’t want to. How do you motivate yourself to blog when you would rather be doing anything else? In this post, I am going to share what I do to motivate myself to blog on hard days.

Write more often– As a disabled blogger, I blog most days of the week because when you blog more often it helps make writing a habit which makes it easier to motivate yourself. If you only blog once every few months sometimes people struggle more to motivate themselves because you aren’t as experienced as someone, who does it more often and it will take you longer to create content than a more experienced blogger. You don’t have to write as much as I do because not everyone is home all day and has as much time as I do but it is so important to have a consistent blogging schedule. You could be struggling to motivate yourself to blog because you don’t blog enough and aren’t making blogging a habit. Writing often can help get yourself into a nice routine and over time blogging will become easier. I blog almost every day of the week not because I think I need to but because it helps improve my writing which improves my self-confidence so I am more motivated to blog.

Get enough sleep– If you want to be productive it is so important that you are not pulling all-nighters and sleeping enough because you will not be motivated to blog with little sleep. I am to write blog posts with four or five hours of sleep but it takes twice as long because often I struggle with writer’s block which I normally don’t struggle with, and I create better content when I have gotten a good night’s rest. When you don’t sleep enough you will feel more sluggish and won’t be as motivated to blog because whether you realize it or not sleep deprivation affects your productivity. Make sure you sleep enough and if you haven’t try to take a short nap before your blog because it will do wonders for your motivation. You will be surprised how much more motivated you will be when you have slept enough!

Don’t blog too much- Blogging more often can help make blogging a habit but at the same time, it’s important that you are realistic with the quantity of posts you create and don’t blog too much because blogger’s burnout is real all too common. It is so important that you give yourself days off because if you work too much you will burn yourself out and not want to blog anymore. I try to give myself at least one day off a week when I am doing very minimal work because you can’t create your best work if you are burning yourself out. Rest days help you recharge and will help provide more clarity so when you are ready to write you are more relaxed and ready to go. I have gotten burnt from blogging and was not motivated to blog at all but as soon as I took a short break my motivation came back. Do not neglect rest days because they are just as important as being consistent with your writing!

Listen to some upbeat music- Before I start my blogging for the day, I always listen to some upbeat music with positive vibes for about an hour because it helps get my mind in the zone. Listen to your favorite music or do some other activity that you can easily pull away from because sometimes we need to get ourselves in the right mindset on days we really want to work, and music can help you do that.

Move your body -When you feel sluggish, a lot of the time people think that they didn’t sleep enough and need to take a nap, and that is sometimes true, but not always. Sometimes you don’t need to take a nap, and it’s your body’s way of saying you need to move and do something to get the blood flowing. I do short walks around my house in the morning, which gives me short bursts of energy and prepares me for the rest of my day. You don’t have to do a full workout because not everyone has time for that but if you are struggling to motivate yourself, getting up and doing a short five-minute walk or stretch can help motivate you.

Write about things that interest you– When you are a blogger it’s easy to fall into the trap of writing about topics because they are popular and got someone else a lot of views. There is nothing wrong with writing about popular topics, but you should not write about a topic because of its popularity and should only write about things you have knowledge in that interest you. It will be harder to motivate yourself to write about a topic that bores you to tears because even though someone else had great success on a certain topic, that doesn’t mean you will get the same results when you write about the exact same thing. It will show in your writing when you write about things that don’t interest you, and that is the worst thing you can do as a blogger. Writing about topics that interest you keeps you motivated and helps you create better content.

Some days it will be very easy to motivate yourself to blog because you slept well while other days blogging seems impossible. As a disabled blogger who lives with pain sometimes, I struggle to motivate myself to write when pain levels are elevated and those are the days, I take the day off. On days when I am feeling good, I try to make blogging a non-negotiable because I am not in complete control of my pain levels and never know if I will be feeling well tomorrow. If you are feeling motivated to write I think that it can be a good idea to write a few extra posts and schedule them that way you have a post already written for the next time you are feeling sluggish and are not motivated. Sleep and good nutrition play a major role in your motivation and if you aren’t taking care of yourself you aren’t going to be as productive.
