Blogging gives you a lot of opportunities that you would not have had without your blog. I love blogging because it has allowed me to easily connect with other disabled people who truly understand the challenges of a disability and can support me in ways that my non-disabled family members cannot. There are a lot of benefits to blogging, and it is truly life-changing but like any job, there are going to be some things that are part of the job that are annoying. People do not always share their pet peeves, but everyone has things in their life that they wish people would stop doing. Every blogger has different pet peeves, and not all creators are going to be annoyed by the same types of things as me and that is okay. What are my biggest blogging pet peeves? In this post, I am going to share some of my biggest blogging pet peeves that I wish people would stop doing.
Great post– I appreciate comments because it is so important to connect with your readers but like most content creators I do not like posts that say “great post” and nothing else. Comments that are less than eight words can hurt my blog’s DA score (domain score) and a lower score means it will rank lower in Google, and it will reach fewer people. I will accept these types of comments from people that I personally know but I really don’t like them because these types of comments are too generic and there is nothing, I say to them. I love getting comments but I would prefer to get engaging comments that I can give a good response to and if all you have to say is “great post” please just hit the like button. People often think that all comments help bloggers but the truth is it only helps us if we are able to give a response.
When people drop links in my comment section– I have made it very clear in my comment policy that my blog’s comment section is for sharing your thoughts on the post I have written, and it’s for promoting yourself, but people still try. I understand how hard it is to grow a blog because I have been trying to grow my blog for seven years, and I support content creators as much as I can, but I can’t stand it when people leave spammy comments with links to their blogs. You should never drop links in someone’s comment section unless it has been made clear that you are allowed to do that, because content creators usually hate that. There is no real way to prevent spammy likes, and the only thing you can do to completely stop this from happening is by turning off your likes, but I don’t want to do that because then no one can like my posts, so, as annoying as it is, I put up with it.
When legitimate comments go into spam– If you have ever noticed that I am not responding to your comment in a timely manner, it is probably not because I am ignoring you, but it is likely that your comment is going into my spam folder. It is so important that bloggers check their spam on a regular basis because sometimes legitimate comments get marked as spam. I try to remember to check my spam every day, but I don’t always remember and sometimes miss legitimate comments for quite some time because I forgot to check my spam. My biggest pet peeve is when legitimate comments get marked as spam and wish there was a way to stop this from happening.
When people are unnecessarily rude– I do not blog to try and convince people that my opinion is the right one and I am only sharing my experiences as one disabled individual. Some people will disagree with my opinions and that is okay because it’s okay to have a different opinion, but I do find it frustrating when people are unnecessarily rude because they disagree and do not recommend blogging for anyone who takes things too personally. I am trying just to help people and there is nothing that infuriates me more than when people go out of their way to tell me that they hate my blog. If you disagree and can’t be kind, just keep scrolling because there is no need to be rude in the comment section of someone’s blog, and can affect someone’s mental health. Some creators quit blogging because of trolls and it’s so sad to me because quitting should be choice not something you felt forced to do.
Blogging is very rewarding, but it can be very frustrating at times because sometimes people will try to use someone’s blog to get free marketing for their brand. I love connecting with my readers but as a content creator, it is so important that you create boundaries for yourself because people will take advantage of you if you let them. There are a lot of things about blogging that I love but there are equally just as many things that people will do that are annoying. I try to not let the little things get to me because you can’t stop people from spamming your blog and the only thing you can do is focus on growing your blog and getting more genuine followers. Disabled people are more likely to be taken advantage of than non-disabled people and I hate them which is why it’s so important to know your worth because it’s okay to say no.
