Blogging takes a lot of time, and I don’t usually struggle with creating content consistently because I don’t have a job, but it can be difficult in the summertime. In the summer, we have a lot more going on and sometimes we will go on vacation and aren’t in a situation where we will be able to blog. My blog views are slower in the summer which makes it even more important for me to create content consistently. There is nothing wrong with bloggers taking a little time off in the summer, and I strongly believe that creators shouldn’t be sacrificing family time for blogging because that is not healthy. If you want to grow it is still important that you continue to create content in the summer because blogs thrive on content, and if you stop posting, you’ll never get new readers. Planning your blog for summer is something that I think all creators should start thinking about before summer hits, because when you are prepared, it’s easier to keep up with your blog. How do you plan your blog for summer? In this post, I am going to talk about a few things that I do to prepare my blog for summer.
Write posts ahead of time- At the end of March, I started creating extra posts because I knew summer was around the corner, and I currently have a few weeks of blog posts already written in advance. My schedule doesn’t change a lot in the summer, and I don’t go on a lot of vacations in the summer because I can’t travel alone, and the people who would normally take me have jobs. I am still able to blog consistently in the summer but sometimes we do take vacations in June or July, and I am not able to blog. My mom babysits two of my nieces a couple of days a week, which is not usually an issue because on days I usually post, one of them goes to preschool, but during the summer, school is out and they are both here. It can be difficult to write posts in the summer because my nieces are loud like all children are, and it’s too hot to sit outside like I can in the cooler months. Start writing blog posts ahead of time if you can, because you never know what your schedule will be like in the summer and how much time you will have to be able to blog.
Ask for guest writers- When I have a surgery, and know that I am going to be away from my blog for a while, I usually will ask for guest writers. You don’t need to be in the hospital to ask for guest writers, because guest writers can be helpful anytime you are busy and don’t have a lot of extra time to create new content. I don’t have regular contributors for my blog, but some bloggers do because it gives them a break and allows readers to get a different perspective. It may be difficult to find guest writers in the summer because everyone has busy schedules, and you want to make sure you are giving people enough time. Guest writers can be a huge help if you are able to find someone, because not only does it help your site, but it also helps them and bloggers are usually more than willing to write a guest post for you.
Schedule your social media posts– Blog posts take a little more time to write than a social media post, but if you have social media, it’s still important to keep up with it in the summer. In the summer, it can be difficult to post on your social media every single day, and you don’t have to because social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest allow you to schedule posts in advance. Scheduling features are a blogger’s best friend because they allow you to still be able to make a post when you are busy.
Write some summer content– During the summer, sometimes views are down which is frustrating for bloggers and is the reason we need to stay consistent during the summer months. I don’t create summer-themed content every single day throughout the summer months because not everyone wants every post to be summer-themed, but I do have some. When you create content that is relevant to the season you are in, it often gets more views. Write posts about how to stay cool in the summer because people love to read those kinds of posts during the hotter months
Update older posts– When you have been blogging for a while, you’re writing often improves because the more you do something, the better you get at it. You don’t always need to have a new post to grow your blog because promoting older posts is just as important. Make tweaks to some of your older content and promote it again because editing posts usually takes a lot less time than writing a new one. Updating posts can get more views to your blog because, as time goes on, hopefully, you get new followers who may not have read your older content.
Blogging is more difficult during the summer months because we have a lot more going on, but if you want your blog to grow, it’s so important that you are as consistent as you can be. Don’t wait until summer is here before you start creating your summer content, because it can be very difficult to be consistent when your friends are asking to go to the beach multiple times a week. There is nothing wrong with taking a vacation in the summer, and your blog doesn’t have to suffer because you can still grow when you are away if you schedule posts in advance. It is okay if you don’t have a post because not posting for a week or two is not the end of the world. Don’t stress about not having as many posts in the summer because you should have fun in the summer, and going a few days without posting is not going to hurt your views that much.
