When you start a blog, you will probably be very happy with your work, but as you get more practice and become a better writer, you may start to notice that the content you wrote last week is a whole lot better than what you did a year ago. Some people may be embarrassed by their older posts because reading old posts sometimes makes you cringe, and you may want to delete your blog and start over. There is no shame in starting over if you are unhappy with your blog and create something that you are proud of, and I recommend you do because content creation should give you some joy. I have been blogging for seven years, and within the last year, I deleted all content and started over because I was not happy with my blog and wanted to improve it. I have no regrets about starting over, but it was kind of a last-minute decision, and I did things that I completely regret doing that I wish I had never done and could take back. What would I do differently if I started over? In this post, I am going to talk about a few things I did when I restarted my blog that I wish I hadn’t done.
I wish I had saved my older content- When I started my new blog, I saved none of my older content because I hated most of it and wanted to improve my content. My biggest regret when I started my new blog was not saving my older content, and I wish that I would have saved my older posts and made tweaks to improve them. I made so much more work for myself by not saving anything because I had to rewrite every blog post, which I am still in the process of doing, and it would have been a lot quicker to edit posts instead of rewriting them. If I started over, I would save all my older content because I had a lot of content on previous blogs that were deleted but were solid posts that I had to rewrite. You should always save all posts, whether you delete your blog or not, because sometimes technology has glitches, and you can lose posts if they aren’t backed up. I struggle to remember every post that I have ever written because there are hundreds, and I wouldn’t have that problem if I had saved them. I lost so many good posts of mine and guest bloggers, and I wish I could undo that mistake.
I wish I would have not started a whole new blog- I have had a WordPress blog since day one because that was what I started with, and it doesn’t make sense for me to go to a new platform when I know this one very well. When I started my blog, I completely shut down my account on my previous blog and started a whole new one. I didn’t think that decision through, and I think starting a whole new blog was unnecessary because I hardly changed anything at all, and all I had to do was delete the content. I could have used the exact same platform, which would have been easier because I wouldn’t have had to slightly change the domain name. There is nothing wrong with starting a brand new blog, but if you are using the same platform, it’s unnecessary, and the only time I would ever start a whole new blog is if I were moving it to a new host. You don’t have to start a new blog every time you want to start over because it’s easy enough to delete your content and change your domain name while still keeping your blog.
I wish I didn’t delete my social media content- When I deleted my previous blog, I didn’t delete my social media accounts because I knew I was still going to blog, but I did delete all my social accounts. I had a lot of good content on my social media that I have had to redo, that I wish I had kept because I had a lot of good posts that I have had to redo. If I started over, I would update my social media with the new website so people go to the right one, but I wouldn’t delete my social media content. If you have hundreds of posts, it can take a very long time to recreate them all, and I am still doing that a year later. I am not planning on starting my blog over any time soon, but if I did, I would keep all my social media posts and wouldn’t delete anything unless my old website was embedded in an image or it was poorly done and I wanted to make it better. I made so much more work for myself by deleting all my social media content, and deleting it all was not a smart move.
When you delete a post, you can get it back as long as you haven’t emptied your recycling bin, but once you delete your blog, it’s final and you can’t get it back. There is nothing wrong with starting your blog over if it makes you happy, but don’t do what I did and not think it through, because you will make so much more work for yourself. I have no regrets about starting my blog over, but I do wish I had done things a little bit differently because starting over is a big decision to make that should not be taken lightly. I made some mistakes when I started over with my blog, but that is okay because I have learned from them, and now I know what not to do if I were to start again. There is nothing wrong with starting over, but it can’t be undone once you do it and you should take some time to think about it. What would you do differently if you started over? I am a chronic blog re-starter. Sometimes I do wish I can keep my old blog (blogspot — 20 years ago), but when I went there a couple of months ago and read my young self blabbering as if she knew what she was talking about I shuddered, and now wish I can forget all those.
I wish I have kept all the friends I made along the way though…

I have restarted my blog multiple times but luckily I didn’t delete my social media which is where a vast majority of my followers are at.
