Who Should Not Start A Blog

Blogging is a very rewarding career choice for a lot of people because it opens up a lot of opportunities you would not have had without your blog. When people are thinking about starting a blog and ask if they should start one, most times I will recommend it because it is very therapeutic. There are times when people ask me if they should start a blog, and I will not recommend blogging because you are not doing it for the right reasons, and think it’s an easy way to get rich. Blogging benefits a lot of disabled people who cannot work, but it’s not for everyone, and you will never hear me say that everyone should start a blog because there are some people who are not in the right headspace and shouldn’t be starting a blog. There are a lot of ways you can make money online, and most bloggers quit within the first year of starting because people think blogging is easy and don’t understand what it means to be a blogger. Who shouldn’t start a blog? In this post, I am going to talk about who shouldn’t start a blog if you are thinking about starting one.

People who are lazy– Some people start blogs because they dislike their jobs and wrongfully believe that bloggers work twenty minutes a day and everyone wants a job that makes a lot of money with very little effort. Some bloggers become overnight successes, but a vast majority of people do not and spend years building their following before they see growth. If you start a blog because you think that you can be lazy and make a lot of money, you shouldn’t start a blog. You can’t be lazy as a blogger because your blog will not grow if you don’t put in the work. Many bloggers spend thirty to forty hours or more a week on their blogs, and it’s not for anyone who wants to be lazy. Some people do not work as much because they are blogging for fun, but if you want to make money someday, you have to treat your blog like a business and show up every day.

People who think it’s a get rich quick scheme- Some people get into content creation because they think it’s any way to get rich. You can make six figures off a blog, but for the vast majority of people, blogging is not something that is going to get you rich fast. Most people do not make millions off their blog, and some people make hardly any money. Blogging is one of the hardest ways to make a livable income, and you should not start one if you want to get rich fast, because chances are it’s not going to happen and will be a very slow process. If you work hard, it is possible to make a decent income from a blog, but don’t expect to get rich overnight. Articles that say “how to get rich in thirty days off of your blog” can be harmful because it convinces people that you can become a millionaire in a short period of time when, in reality, it takes much longer than that.

People who can’t handle criticism- People will be meaner online than they would ever be in real life, and it’s not for anyone who can’t handle a little criticism. Trolls are everywhere online, and if mean comments make you cry for days, content creation is not a good choice for you. When you start to grow your blog, you will start to attract more trolls, and if you are a people pleaser and can’t handle a little criticism, content creation might not be the right choice for you, because as your blog becomes more popular, you will encounter a troll or two. The first time you encounter a troll, it is hard for anyone, and over time, you will get better at managing them, but if it’s worsening your mental health, don’t start a blog because you can’t avoid them.

People who don’t like to write– People who start photography blogs don’t have to enjoy writing because photography blogs are all pictures with very little writing, if any at all. Most blogs are full-length articles and do require some level of writing, and if you don’t enjoy that, I wouldn’t start a blog that requires you to write. Blogging will not be enjoyable if you don’t like to write, and you will be more likely to quit when you force yourself to do something you don’t like. You should only start a blog if you enjoy the blog-making process because sometimes the process is long, and you aren’t going to last if you are forcing yourself to blog. There are a lot of ways you can make money online, and you don’t have to force yourself to blog; you should find something you do enjoy. Enjoyment is so important for building a blog because you spend so much time doing it.

People who need to be told what to do- If you are one of those people who need a boss telling you what to do, blogging is not for you. You are your own boss, and no one is going to tell you when to create content, and you have to be disciplined enough to do it yourself. If you need a lot of guidance, you shouldn’t start a blog because no one is going to tell you what to do, and you have to figure a lot of things out yourself. No one can grow a blog for you, and to be a good blogger, you have to be disciplined and put in the work without being told to. If you get lazy with your blog, it’s on you because no one is going to tell you when to create content and will expect you to. Blogging takes some level of discipline because you have to be able to show up even on days you are tired and don’t want to.

People who struggle to open up- If you want to start a blog about health, you may have to open up about a lot of health issues that make you uncomfortable, because your blog will thrive on that type of content. Blogging about health takes vulnerability, and if you are a private person and struggle to open up, you should not start a health blog if you struggle doing that. Readers want to get to know the person they are following and sometimes you have to be a little vulnerable to be able to connect with your readers. Blogging is not for anyone who holds a lot of things back and struggles to open up.

Starting a blog is one of the best decisions I have made because it has allowed me to make a little money and connect with other disabled people who understand what it’s like to be disabled in an inaccessible world. Blogging has a lot of benefits, but it’s not for everyone, and before you start a blog, it’s important to figure out why you want to start a blog. If you are only starting a blog because you want to make a lot of money, I wouldn’t start one because blogging doesn’t always make you a lot of money. There are a lot of reasons why someone may want to start a blog, and not every blogger will do it for the same reasons, but you should do it for the right ones. You will not like blogging if you don’t enjoy it and are forcing yourself to write, and people tend to quit when they force themselves to do something they don’t want to do.
