When you start a blog, it is not hard to come up with new ideas because you haven’t written anything yet, but as you create more content, it becomes more difficult to come up with new ideas. New bloggers often struggle less to come up with new ideas than someone who has been blogging for ten years, and sometimes get excited with their new blog and start to create too much content. It takes a lot of time and effort to build your blog, and when you don’t have a lot of content on your blog, you have to be more consistent because blogs thrive on content. Content creators have to work a lot to build their brands, and it is easy to get so motivated with building your blog that you burn yourself out. It is so important to have a healthy balance with real life and your blog because you aren’t doing yourself any favors if you work yourself so hard for the first year that you end up quitting. I think that all bloggers who have been online for a while have experienced some form of blogger’s burnout because it happens to all of us at some point. How can you avoid blogger’s burnout? In this post, I am going to talk about what I do to avoid getting burnt out from blogging.
Take a break when you are feeling tired- When you are a blogger, sometimes you feel guilty for taking days off because you feel like you are failing your readers. As a blogger, you never truly have a day off because there is always something that you can be doing to improve your blog. If you are feeling mentally exhausted from blogging, it is so important that you give yourself days off because you can’t be a great blogger if you’re forcing yourself to work all the time and burning yourself out. I work on my blog most days of the week, but I don’t make money from my blog, and if I am feeling tired on a random Tuesday, I will take the day off from blogging. Breaks are not laziness and are so important for avoiding blogger’s burnout because blogging should support your mental health, not make it worse. Blogging breaks can help provide more clarity if you are struggling, and it’s okay if you have to take the day or month off. The only time I would not recommend taking a break is if you are getting paid to create content, which most of us aren’t.
Write about topics you genuinely enjoy– When you are a new blogger, it is easy to start comparing yourself to more experienced bloggers who have been online much longer than you. There is nothing more frustrating than when you are putting in a lot of work and not as many people are reading your blog as you would like. People sometimes will get desperate to get views and will write posts on popular topics because they have gone viral for someone else. If you enjoy writing about blogging, then write about it, but if you don’t, then pick another topic. Writing about topics that bring you no joy takes the fun out of blogging and is an easy way to burn yourself out quickly. You can write about the exact same topics as someone else, but that does not mean your post will be as successful as your favorite influencer, because it’s how you approach it that matters. It is very hard to burn yourself out from blogging if you enjoy your content, and it is easy to get burnt out when you force yourself to write about things you think are boring. I don’t write about politics on my blog because it doesn’t interest me, and if I did that, I would get bored with blogging very quickly.
Do things outside of blogging- When you are a new blogger and are trying to grow, it is easy to get overly consumed with blogging and do nothing else. Most bloggers live and breathe their blog because you have to work a lot before you see significant growth. It is so important that you have things you do outside of blogging because it’s not healthy to not take breaks, and you should have a life outside of blogging. I spend a lot of time on my blog, but I also play with my nieces a couple of days a week and occasionally hang out with my sisters. Make sure you are able to shut off from your blog and do things that have nothing to do with blogging because you need to be able to shut off from your blog to avoid blogger’s burnout. You should not be stressed if you are not able to blog because social media is fake, and it’s important to develop real relationships with people who are not online.
Try not to compare yourself to others– There are billions of blogs on the Internet, and it is easy to start comparing yourself to others, but it is so important that you try not to. You will become burnt out from blogging if you are constantly looking at other creators, wishing you could be just as good as they are. Blogging will be more enjoyable when you focus on your blog instead of what other people are doing, because you will never feel like what you do is good enough if you fall into the comparison trap. Comparing yourself to others is an easy way to burn yourself out because there is always going to be someone who is better than you, and that is okay.
Spread your posts out a little more– When you are a new blogger, you often create a lot more content because you have so many ideas, and it’s exciting at first. New bloggers sometimes get so excited with their blog that they create so much content that they run out of ideas within the first month and burn themselves out. There is nothing wrong with blogging every day, because the more you practice blogging, the better you get, but you don’t have to publish every single post as soon as you write them. Schedule posts for a different day and spread them out a little because it will help avoid blogger’s burnout and give you more time to come up with new ideas. Blogging too much is one of the biggest mistakes new bloggers make and is the reason why a lot of people quit within the first year. You may have a lot of ideas now, but it’s important to try to pace yourself because you will run out of ideas faster than you think.
When you love blogging, it is easy to burn yourself out because it doesn’t feel like a job, even if it is. Blogger’s burnout is real, and it is so important to have a healthy relationship with blogging so you always enjoy it. As a disabled blogger, I am motivated to blog most of the time, but I don’t ever force content if I am not motivated unless I am working with a brand and have to. Blogging should be fun, and you shouldn’t be doing it so much that you start to hate blogging. It makes me sad when I see great creators putting out so much content and all of a sudden quit because they burn out from it. Some people will be able to blog more than others without getting burnt out, and it is okay if you need more breaks than your favorite influencer. Don’t burn yourself out from blogging, and find a schedule that works for you that you can easily maintain. How do you avoid blogger’s burnout?
