What Skills Can Bloggers Put On A Job Resume?

When you are looking for a job, it can sometimes be difficult because most of the good jobs require tons of experience you may not have or a college degree. It can be even more difficult for disabled people to find a job because employers think we are not capable and will choose the non-disabled applicant. As a disabled person, I am a bit more limited when it comes to employment because I was not able to get a college degree, and I can’t do any job that requires manual labor ora drivers license. I don’t have a lot of special skills that would make employers want to hire me because I didn’t go to college, but I do have a blog that you can put on a job resume. There are a lot of skills that I didn’t have before my blog that I have developed because of my blog. Some types of jobs, content creators are the most qualified to do because they require skills you wouldn’t have without having a blog. What skills can bloggers put on a job resume? In this post, I am going to talk about a few skills that bloggers can put on a job resume.

Social media management- Most businesses have a social media account because not having one is business suicide, and they often hire someone to manage that account. People often think that social media requires no skills, and all you have to do is post consistently and watch it grow. Those are the people who don’t post on social media because growing a social media account takes a lot of skill. Posting consistently is not enough to grow online anymore and anyone who tells you that is giving you outdated information. Growing online is a lot harder than people think because everyone is doing it, and it’s all about learning to beat the algorithm and getting it to push your content. Content creators who have a decent-sized following are the most qualified applicants to manage your social media because we do it for a living and know what it takes to grow online. If you have a social media account for your blog, you can put that on your job resume because a lot of businesses are looking for people who know how to grow a social media account.

Advocacy- If you blog about a health condition, you can put advocacy on your job resume. Many advocates have tons experiences working with companies to improve their accessibility, have developed good research skills, and some people create video content, so we wouldn’t be afraid of public speaking. Not all bloggers can put advocacy on their job resume, but if you are a health blogger, it is a skill that not everyone has that you can put on a job resume. Many businesses look for people who aren’t afraid to put themselves out there, who would know how to expand their business and reach more people in the disabled community.

Writing and editing experience- Businesses often look for people who know how to create good content, and there is no better person to do that job than a blogger who does it for a living. Many bloggers who have been online for years have written hundreds posts and have a lot of writing and editing experience. Bloggers often can create content in half the time than someone who is not a content creator because we have had tons of practice and are able to do it quickly. If you are a new blogger who has been blogging for less than a year, I wouldn’t put writing experience on your job resume just yet, but if you have been doing it for a while, you most definitely can. The great thing about it is that you have your blog to prove to business owners that you aren’t an amateur and have writing experience, because not everyone can prove they are a good writer.

Website management- It is not easy to grow a website because there are a lot of things that can go wrong, and you have to know a little something about SEO to create a successful blog. Businesses often hire people to manage their businesses because they may not have the time or knowledge to do it themselves. If you put website management on your job resume, it will help you stand out because not everyone knows how to build a website, but content creators do. When I started my blog, I knew nothing about website management because it is a huge learning curve, and I have spent countless hours trying to figure things out, and there is still a lot I don’t know. Website management is a skill that you can and should put on your job resume because it’s not easy to build a website, and is not a skill everyone has.

Design experience- Some blogs do not have any images, and would not be able to put design experience on their job resume because they don’t create images for their blog. Blogs that have images often get more views than those that don’t, and many bloggers create images for their blogs. If you are a blogger and have experience with creating images online, I would put that on your job resume because not everyone has experience with Canva. If you are a blogger and have experience with creating images online, I would put that on your job resume because businesses often need people who have design experience and would know how to create professional-looking images online. People with design experience are very useful in businesses because you need someone who can create social media content that looking appealling.

When it comes to blogging, people often think that the only skill bloggers have is writing, but that is so far from true. Bloggers develop so many skills that you wouldn’t have if you weren’t a content creator, that you can put on a job resume that will help you stand out. Some people may not want to advertise their blogs to businesses they want to work for, and you don’t have to put your blog on a job resume if you don’t want to. If you are struggling to find a job and have a blog, you most definitely can put that on your job resume to help you stand out. There are a lot of jobs that content creators are the most qualified to do, and sometimes your blog gets you hired at your dream job. This is not a complete list of every skill that bloggers can put on a job resume because every blogger will have different skills. As a blogger, sometimes it doesn’t feel like I have developed very many skills because of my blog, but you probably have more skills than you think. What skills do you think bloggers should put on their job resume? If you liked this post, please leave a comment below and share it with your friends.
