Are You Burnt Out From Blogging?

When you are a blogger, you have to work a lot to build your blog because most of the time you don’t have people doing things for you and have to do everything yourself. Blogging can be fun, but it is hard work because, despite what some people believe, you have to work more than an hour a day to become successful. I enjoy blogging, and it doesn’t feel like work to me, but you can do too much of a good thing and lose interest in your blog because you are pushing yourself too hard. There is a high burnout rate amongst bloggers because you have to put out so much content, and it is easy to burn yourself out when you love what you do. It is so important to practice self-care as a blogger because blogger’s burnout is real and is the reason some people quit blogging. Some of the signs of burnout are obvious, and we know when we need to take a break but sometimes we miss the signs and quit because we think we have lost interest . As a disabled blogger, I have experienced blogger’s burnout, and there have been many times I didn’t recognize the signs of burnout and almost quit. What are the signs of blogger’s burnout? In this post, I am sharing a few signs that may indicate you are becoming burnt out from blogging and need to take a break.

You lose interest in your blog– If you love to write blog posts, and all of a sudden are struggling to motivate yourself to write, that should be the first red flag that you may be experiencing burnout. Interests change, and not everyone who loses interest in their blog are experiencing blogger’s burnout, and sometimes we just don’t want to blog anymore. If you are working long hours on your blog and aren’t giving yourself very many breaks, it is possible that you aren’t losing interest in your blog and are burnt out from creating too much content. Before you quit your blog, take a long break to see if you become interested again and change up the types of content you create if you are bored. Losing interest in your blog is one of the first signs of blogger’s burnout, and sometimes all you need for blogging to be fun again is to step away from your blog.

You are experiencing severe creative blocks- Writers block is something that most bloggers have experienced, and it is completely normal to sometimes struggle to find the right words to say. If you are experiencing severe creative blocks and can never come up with new ideas, when you usually don’t struggle, it’s a sign that you may be overworking yourself and struggling with burnout. I don’t usually struggle with coming up with new ideas, and for me, it’s relatively easy. If I’m burning out from blogging, I often hit a severe creative block, and it takes me days to come up with a new idea that I could normally come up with in five minutes. It is more difficult to come up with new ideas as you create more content, but if you are experiencing severe creative blocks, it’s a sign that you are doing too much. Burnout can affect your ability to be creative because you aren’t going to think as clearly when you are overly exhausted.

You are feeling more fatigued- Burnout sometimes has physical symptoms, and if you are feeling more fatigued than usual, it could be that you are burnt out. As a disabled pain blogger, I am always tired because constant pain can negatively affect my sleep, and fatigue isn’t always a sign of burnout for me. If I am feeling more fatigued than usual and there is no reason for my fatigue, I always look back at how much I have been blogging because writing can cause mental fatigue. Sometimes you aren’t physically tired and are mentally exhausted from blogging too much.

You are dreading the creative process- Blogging is fun, and one of the things I love most about blogging is that it forces me to be creative. I love what I do and look forward to writing because, for me, it doesn’t feel like a job, and it’s very therapeutic. If you normally look forward to blogging and all of a sudden lose motivation and dread the creative process, it may be because you are burnt out. Blogging should be something that you enjoy, and if you no longer have any desire to create content, it’s a sign that you are blogging too much and need to take a break or try something else. You should be enjoying blogging, and it’s not something that should feel forced that you completely dread. If you do dread blogging, it’s a sign that you are burnt out or need to be doing something else because blogging isn’t for everyone.

You are getting sick more often– If you don’t usually get sick that often and all of a sudden start getting sick frequently, it may be because you are pushing yourself too hard and need a break. Overworking yourself with very minimal rest can put a lot of stress on your body, which can sometimes cause you to become ill. Some disabled and chronically ill people have a weaker immune system, and it’s not a sign of burnout, but it is a red flag if you don’t normally get sick and all of a sudden start getting all kinds of illnesses over a short period of time. Burnout can put a lot of stress on your body, and frequent illness is not something that should be ignored.

When you are a blogger, sometimes you have to be extra aware of the signs of burnout because you love what you do, and it’s easy to overdo it when it doesn’t feel like a job. Some people quit blogging because they lose interest, but most people quit because they put so much pressure on themselves to create as much content as possible and burn themselves out. If you are a blogger, it’s so important that you take care of yourself to prevent burn out because if you don’t your body will eventually force you to. Breaks are so important because when you have a healthy dose of blogging, you will be able to think clearly and won’t experience severe creative blocks. You will be a better blogger when you don’t burn yourself out because you can’t expect to do your best work when you aren’t taking care of yourself. Know the signs of burnout, and it’s okay if you need a break because it’s not laziness, and it’s self-care. What signs of bloggers burn out have you experienced?
