My Reflections Of 2025

Happy New Year! It is that time of year where people make new goals and reflect on the things that they achieved this year. Non-disabled people often will have big accomplishments and will try to do something bigger in the upcoming year but when you are disabled, it can be difficult to come up with things you achieved this year because you may not have done anything major. It is okay if you didn’t write a book this year or get a job promotion, and the only thing you did this year was survive it. Sometimes we have to really think about things we achieved this year, but everyone has accomplishments because it still counts even if they’re small. People sometimes get frustrated and think that they didn’t achieve anything this year, but you may have achieved more than you think. I didn’t achieve anything spectacular this year, but did have a couple of small wins that I am proud of. What did I achieve in 2025? In this post, I am going to reflect on some of the things that happened in 2025.

I relaunched my podcast- I have been blogging consistently for about nine years, but in May of 2024, I completely shut down my successful previous blog and started over because I wanted a fresh start. On my previous blog, I was consistently creating audio posts to make it as accessible as possible and had a podcast, but shut it down when I started over because I deleted all of my older content. I took a break from podcasting for several months while I set up my new blog, but recently, I rebooted my podcast because if you want to reach as many people as possible, it’s important to have accessible content. I don’t have a lot of audio posts because during the holidays, I was not able to record as often as I would have liked but I did start recording some of my blog posts. My podcast doesn’t have as many views as my blog, and writing will always be more of a priority than my podcasts but I do hope to get more audio posts this coming year.

My blog reached one-hundred subscribers- When I started over, I didn’t make a huge announcement like I should have done, and as a result, I lost a lot of followers because I shut my previous blog down without any warning. I regretted not making a big announcement when it was too late because a lot of my previous regular followers have no idea where I went, and I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to rebuild my site like I had before. My previous blog had over five-hundred subscribers, and I am nowhere near close to where I was before, but I have reached my first hundred subscribers, which I didn’t think I’d be able to do. My blog is still considered small, but I am proud of this small accomplishment because most bloggers get frustrated with slow growth and give up too quickly.

My sister got married– A few days after Christmas, I had the opportunity to be a bridesmaid in my younger sister’s wedding. I will not be sharing specific details about the wedding because it was a private family event and is not my business to share. Weddings are a little more stressful for me because there are some things about my disability that I cannot control, but luckily, I was wearing a dark blue dress, and didn’t have any major bowel disasters. It was cold the day after the wedding, but on the day of the wedding, it was beautiful, and it could not have been more perfect.

I wrote one hundred and forty-six posts this year- When I started my new blog, I published posts every single day, and have quite a few posts up because of that, but I have started to slow down since it is getting harder to come up with new ideas. I am almost amazed by how much content I put out online, and this year alone, I wrote one-hundred and forty six blog posts, which is more than most people have done in a lifetime. I am proud of that accomplishment because it has not been easy, and I am still going strong.

My blog hit ten-thousand views- A successful blog is not solely based on the amount of views you have because engagement is also equally as important. It is still important because brands often want to know how many views your blog gets in a month, and the more you have, the more you can charge. My traffic was very slow for a couple of month and I was starting to get discouraged, but fortunately it did start to pick up, and my blog has gotten its first ten-thousand views.

When you are disabled, sometimes it can be difficult to see your accomplishments because people often believe that you have to do something big for your successes to count. It is okay if you didn’t accomplish anything major this year, because small progress is still progress. Basic tasks can be difficult for disabled people, and if you learned how to do something independently that you used to need help with, you should be proud of yourself. Goals are very individualized, and it’s so important that we don’t compare ourselves to other people. Small accomplishments for non-disabled people can be big for a disabled person, and you should never feel bad for the things you achieved this year because someone else has done something bigger. Give yourself credit for all the small things you have to achieve the small goals before you can do something bigger. What things did you achieve in 2025? I don’t care how small you think your accomplishments are; I want to hear them in the comment below. If you liked this post, please leave a comment below and share it with your friends.
