My Reflections Of 2025

Happy New Year! It is that time of year when people make new goals and reflect on the things that they achieved this year, so you can try to do better next year. Non-disabled people often will have big accomplishments, but when you are disabled, you often can’t achieve the things non-disabled people can and don’t have as big of accomplishments, because you may not have done anything major. It is okay if you didn’t write a book this year or get the job promotion you wanted, and the only thing you did this year was survive it. People sometimes get frustrated and think that they didn’t achieve anything this year, but if you really think about it, you probably have achieved more than you think. I didn’t achieve anything spectacular this year, but I did have a couple of small wins that I am proud of. What did I achieve in 2025? In this post, I am going to reflect on some of the things that happened in 2025.

I relaunched my podcast- I have been blogging consistently for about seven and a half years, but in May of 2024, I completely shut down my successful previous blog and started over because I didn’t like most of the content and wanted to start fresh. On my previous blog, I was consistently creating audio posts to make it accessible for as many people as possible and had a podcast, but shut it down when I started over because I deleted all of my older content. I took a break from podcasting for several months while I set up my new blog, but recently, I rebooted my podcast because if you want to reach as many people as possible, it’s important to have accessible content. I don’t have a lot of audio posts because I don’t have a lot of opportunities where I am in an environment with limited distractions. My podcast doesn’t have as many views as my blog, and writing will always be more of a priority than my podcasts, but I do hope to get more audio posts this coming year.

My blog reached one-hundred subscribers- When I started over, I didn’t make a huge announcement like I should have done, and as a result, I lost a lot of followers because I shut my previous blog down without telling anyone, and I regret doing that. My previous blog had over five hundred subscribers, and I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to rebuild my site like I had before because growth had been slow. My blog is still nowhere near where it was, but I am making progress and am hopeful I will build it as big or even bigger than it was before.

I wrote one hundred and forty-six posts this year- When I started my new blog, I published posts every single day, and have quite a few posts up because of that, but I have started to slow down since it is getting harder to come up with new ideas. I am amazed by how much content I put out online, and this year alone, I wrote one-hundred and forty six blog posts, which is more than most people have done in a lifetime. I am proud of that accomplishment because it has not been easy, and sometimes I wonder how I keep coming up with ideas.

My blog hit ten-thousand views- A successful blog is not solely based on the amount of views you have because engagement is equally as important, if not more important. Views are still important because they tell you how many people visit your site, and it is exciting when you see that people are actually reading your posts. Brands often want to know how many monthly views your blog gets, and when you have a lot of traffic, you can charge more for sponsored content. My traffic was very slow for a couple of months, and I was starting to get discouraged, but it did start to pick up, and my blog has gotten its first ten-thousand views.

My sister got married– A few days after Christmas, one of my youngest sisters got married, and I got the opportunity to be in the wedding as a bridesmaid. I will not be sharing specific details about the wedding because it was a private family event and not my business to share, but I can say it was a fun day that I was glad to be a part of. I hated the dress I was wearing, not because it didn’t look good on me, because it did, but it triggered my chronic pain, and I could not wait to take it off.

I started walking with a weighted backpack– In 2024, I started to go on daily walks because I needed to take cardio more seriously for better health. Last year, I started to take my cardio workouts to a whole new level and walked with a weighted backpack because I felt that I wasn’t pushing myself as hard as I could have. I don’t walk with a lot of weight because doing too much can damage your spine, and it doesn’t take a lot of weight to challenge yourself.  My fitness has improved so much with that one small change, and I can’t wait to see how much more I can improve this coming year.

When you are disabled, sometimes it can be difficult to see your accomplishments because people often believe that you have to do something big for your successes to count. It is okay if you didn’t accomplish anything major this year, because small accomplishments still count. Basic tasks can be difficult for disabled people, and if you learned how to do something independently that you used to need help with, you should be proud of yourself. Goals are very individualized, and it’s so important that we don’t compare ourselves to other people because even though your accomplishments may feel small, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be proud of them.

Small accomplishments for non-disabled people can be big for a disabled person, and you should never feel bad for the things you achieved this year because someone else has done something bigger. Give yourself credit for all the small things you have achieved this year because you have to master the small stuff before you can go bigger. What things did you achieve in 2025? It doesn’t matter how small you think your accomplishments are; I want to hear about them in the comments below. If you liked this post, please leave a comment below and share it with your friends.
