A Little Bit About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! My name is Sarah, and I live with a physical disability called Spina Bifida that also comes with a lot of other health challenges, such as chronic migraine, Hydrocephalus, neurogenic bladder and bowel, hip dysplasia, orthopedic issues, and many other challenges I have not mentioned. I may have a lot of physical challenges and need more help than most people, but I don’t let that stop me because life doesn’t stop when you are disabled. I am just like you, and the only difference is that I move a little differently and need to use catheters to go to the bathroom. I started my blog because we live in a world that is designed for non-disabled people, that is surrounded by inaccessibility and ableism, and I hope to help disabled people feel less alone and to educate non-disabled people on the realities of a disability. As a disabled person, I have struggled to find a job because of the discrimination I have faced in job interviews, and I still live with both of my parents because I can’t afford to live on my own, and have four non-disabled sisters who help me when I need it.

Disability inclusion is important to me because I know what it feels like to not be included, and I never want anyone to feel that way. I hope that my blog teaches you what it means to be accessible and makes you more aware of what the media gets wrong about disability. My main goal with my blog is to help you understand how my disability affects me because you will not learn that in school, and only disabled people can teach you that. Disability has a lot of positives, but you wouldn’t know that by turning on your TV because the media tends to hyper-focus on only the negatives of a disability. I try to have a good balance of both the positives and negatives of my disability because talking about only the positives of my disability does not teach you what it’s like to be disabled in a world designed for non-disabled people. If you are looking for inspiration, my blog may not be for you because on my platforms, I will not tell you what I think you want to hear, but what you need to hear. I hope to see you in the next post!

  1. I’m a person with a disability myself. It makes me glad to see people like you advocating for people with disabilities and shedding a light on what living with disabilities is really like. It’s really nice to meet you Sarah!
